Music For Pleasure – New Music – January 2018
Following on from my Top 10 Tracks – 2017 I thought I’d keep a monthly blog going of the new music that I’m currently listening to. Inevitably, this will also help me to compile Top 10 Tracks – 2018. Most songs are plagiarised directly from Marc Riley’s radio show on BBC 6 Music as a point of reference but I will try and be more adventurous this year with my research. If anybody does read this and wants to recommend new music to listen to then please feel free to contact me in the comments below or by email: email@example.com
Hookworms ‘Static Resistance’ (Domino Record Co)
The second track to be the taken from the recently released ‘Microshift’ album continues on from the simple quality of ‘Negative Space’ which was one of the best tracks of 2017 for me. Widely reported and recognised as a change of musical direction from their previous output, the album shows another side to the band’s songwriting skills. Currently on tour until the end of March with some summer festival dates already announced:

Des Demonas ‘The South Will Never Rise Again’ (In The Red Records)
Carried over from 2017 and taken from their s/t album this is the stand out track by far. Hailing from Washington D.C., I just hope that the band will tour the UK later in the year as threatened.

The Lovely Eggs ‘Wiggy Giggy’ (Egg Records)
Described as northern psychedelic punks, The Lovely Eggs build on their most creative phase with this piece of pop music. Taken from their forthcoming ‘This Is Eggland’ album and produced by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips). The band hit the road from 8th February onwards and have added two London shows for October after initially selling the 100 Club out. If you order directly from the band your always get a sweet message from them included too.

Tune-Yards ‘Heart Attack’ (4AD)
Brand new track taken from the ‘I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life’ album and video directed by Mimi Cave. ‘Heat Attack’ instantly gets under your skin and gets better with every listen. Touring the UK/Europe in March.

Bruch “Nature’s Word’ (Bruch)
Currently a student at ACM in Guildford who writes haunting and infectious songs. Her dedicated work ethic mixed with her musical output, that is going from strength to strength, has ensured that she’s receiving deserved recognition across the industry. This track reminds me of Aldous Harding who made one of the best albums of 2017.

Ty Segall ‘Every 1’s A Winner’ (Drag City Records)
Taken from officially the best album title for 2018 ‘Freedom’s Goblin’ this cover of the Hot Chocolate classic does it complete justice. Returning to these shores in June.
